The Ivy Leaf Club have kindly offered to run a Charity Bingo Evening in aid of the St.Ives Day Care Centre…how kind of them! It is being held at the Ivy Leaf Club in St.ives on Tuesday 24th April (doors open 7pm with Eyes Down at 8pm). Do go along for some fun and to support the Centre. Our thanks to all at the Ivy Leaf Club for doing this..it is much appreciated!
Thank you to Ali Naylor, the Community Projects Officer from The Norris Museum, who came to the Centre last Friday with a number of young carers to chat with some of our members about St.Ives in the past. This will be at start of art work to be created in the bus station…from the conversations had with members the young people will create mood boards of ideas about the past. How lovely that young people can gain a better understanding about St.Ives from some of our members who have lived in the area for many years. Thank you to Ali and all of the young people who come with her…it created quite a buzz in the Centre.
It was Jade’s last day of work experience with us on Monday and look what she brought in….delicious cakes for all our members and volunteers and a thank you card….we think it should be us thanking you Jade…you have been a delight and we will miss you! We wish you all the very best and do hope you will come back and visit us!
Happy Birthday Wishes to Amy Asher from Bluntisham! Amy is 17 this week! Amy is currently doing work experience at the Day Centre as part of the Health and Social Care Course she is doing at Huntingdon Regional College. As part of this work placement Amy comes to Centre once a week until June and over the course of her time with the Centre she will complete at least 100 hours of work experience with us. Her main activities at the Day Centre include talking to members, providing much needed social contact, making teas and coffees, assisting with meals and generally helping out. Amy has particularly enjoyed getting to know the volunteers at the Centre as well as all of the members and has found the experience working here very helpful in understanding that elderly people all have their own identities and interests and how they all take care of each other. She has enjoyed learning how to look after elderly people and talking with them. One member told her about his time in the Royal Air Force, which she found very relevant as when she completes this course she aims to go on to a Uniform Service Course as she aims to join the Navy. Here is Amy with two of our lovely volunteers, Christine and Rosemary!
What a busy day in the Centre today! Becky was in taking members through various exercises, Glynnis was in offering chiropody services and all topped off with an afternoon entertainment from Pat Sawyer singing a range of popular songs from the 50’s and 60’s (had members on on their feet dancing)! Here is Pat in his groove!
Blanche Kirke celebrated her 95th birthday earlier this month. Happy Birthday Blanche!! She said she had a wonderful day, and enjoyed cards, flowers, a birthday cake (baked by Dave’s daughter) and a celebratory glass of sherry! The celebrations were rounded off with a sing-a-long with Juke Box Legends!
